The Ministry of Planned Giving

St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church Foundation, Inc.

St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church Foundation, Inc. was established to give parishioners an opportunity to make a final witness of their Christian faith by creating a legacy through a gift to the Foundation. Gifts given to the Foundation are not intended for the daily operating expenses of the parish, such as those funded through the annual pledge drive, but rather are gifts that are planned so that bequeathed property will ultimately benefit the church and the ministries of the church. Because the principal of the donations is invested, the income from the donation continues to benefit St. Andrew’s many times over.

St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church Foundation, invests its funds through the Episcopal Church Foundation, www.episcopalfoundation.org/giving/donors.html

Similar to a bank, the Episcopal Church Foundation functions as an investment arm, but money invested by St. Andrew’s Foundation is held in trust for St. Andrew’s Foundation and not available for other clients of the Episcopal Church Foundation. St. Andrew’s Foundation has an independent board of directors whose responsibility it is to see that funds are used in support of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church. Current members are Duane Stanley, Ken Knox, Tom Gladstone, Gene Sapp and Ruthie McClain. The Rector and the Senior Warden of the Vestry sit on the Board as nonvoting ex officio members.

The St. Andrew’s Church Foundation is an opportunity to express gratitude for the gifts of life that you have enjoyed and to show your support for the mission of St. Andrew’s. Have you considered a Christian Preamble for your will? Here is a sample of what it might say.

A Christian Preamble to Your Will

A Christian preamble to your will can be a wonderful way to share with your family, for one last time, what your life of faith has meant to you. It will be a reminder to them, in this time of loss and sorrow, to put their trust in God, as you have.

A Christian preamble might read something like this:

I------, of--------, being of sound mind and being under no restraint, do make, declare and publish this my last Will and Testament.

In thanksgiving to God for the gift of life, given though Baptism and for the many blessings which God has showered upon me; and in thanksgiving to God for the gifts of faith and hope through Jesus Christ; in thanksgiving to God for the gifts of nurture and love through the church where we have shared faith and fellowship; I now commend my loved ones to grow in this same faith, being true to their own baptism, knowing that God will continue to provide for them in their lifetime. I encourage them to place their faith and trust in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

I now therefore…… (and then the particulars of the will would follow. You would leave gifts to family and friends, but also articulate the gifts you leave to your church or various ministries of the church.)

Your attorney, rector, or your Episcopal Church Foundation representative can help you with the appropriate wording so that your will truly reflects your values.
