In celebration of 100 years of worship, praise,and service, St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church has published a centennial cookbook with delicious recipes and notes of remembrances. To order your copy, email the church at email@example.com with “cookbook” in the subject line.
Proposed Monthly Events
July 2013 – Centennial Cookbook Kickoff; collect 100 recipes. Handout forms at July 4th picnic.
August 2013 – Collect 100 pieces of different items (shoes, school supplies, coats, gloves, or eyeglasses, etc.) and distribute them to those in need. Click here for more information!
September 2013 – Children’s penny scavenger hunt (adults can help!). Children are encouraged to work together to try and find a penny from each year from 1914-2014 and then make a timeline using the pennies of specific years to note events in the church’s history.
October 2013 – 1914 Costume Ball; Commission an artist(s) within the church to create a limited edition sculpture, painting, etc. Auction the piece(s) for funds; proceeds go to the Renovation Fund.
November 2013 – Hold a centennial candlelight service in which each candle represents thanksgiving or praise for an event that took place at SA (wedding, baptism, funeral, confirmation) or perhaps in memory of former members of SA.
December 2013 – Hold a 100-hour service marathon. Have parishioners and their families volunteer throughout a 100-hour period – focusing on service in places and at times that need volunteers.
January 2014 – Centennial Banner inspired and created by children in the congregation (with adult leadership
February 2014 – Sweetheart Centennial King and Queen Contest. Put jars in front of each nominee’s photo and $1.00 = 1 vote; proceeds go to the Renovation Fund.
March 2014 – Photo ID Contest. Locate earlier photos of people in SA’s past and present congregations and have a contest to see who can identify most of them.
April 2014 – Centennial Concert; perform a song/hymn/instrumental from each decade; Centennial Cookbook sales begin; proceeds go to the Renovation Fund.
May 2014 – SA Night at the Movies; watch a video of interviews with “instrumental members” as they share memorable moments and historical reflections of SA. Ask former priests/bishops to submit as well if they are not going to be able to join us on July 4, 2014 for the Centennial Day Celebration.
June 2014 – Centennial 100 Duck Race; Parishioners purchase/sponsor plastic ducks in memory/thanksgiving for someone/event at SA and have a duck race in SA Bay (or kiddie pools); proceeds go to the Renovation Fund.
July 4, 2014 – Centennial Day Celebration; invite former priests and bishops, former members and present parishioners to join us for the culminating afternoon/evening Centennial Celebration. Musical performances and activities in the afternoon (say 4:00 – 6:00 – jumping house or water slide for kids, horseshoes and yard games, Bunko and other card games and looping video of photos from the past inside Byrne Hall). Popcorn and lemonade provided. More music and a picnic held on the front lawn beginning around 6:00. The vestry provides hamburgers and hotdogs and all others bring side dishes. PC fireworks follow at 9:00. Closing prayer afterwards.
